Middletown, CT, October 30, 2004 – Toastmaster Brian Neary, CTM wins Division Level Humorous Speech Contest

Toastmasters is an international organization aimed at improving communication and leadership skills.  Members give “off the cuff” and prepared speeches to their fellow members as well as participate in formal evaluation sessions of speeches they hear.  One of the first goals for a Toastmaster is to become a CTM (Competent Toastmaster).  A member earns their CTM by completing ten prepared speeches out of the programs Communication and Leadership Program manual.  Once earning CTM certification, a member may earn different levels of Advanced Toastmaster (ATM) certification.

Brian Neary, CTM a member of Toastmasters International chapter 5908 located in Middletown, CT has recently made two phenomenal achievements.  Brian managed to achieve CTM status after only being as member of Toastmasters for 11 months.  More recently, on October 18, 2004 Brian won the Toastmasters District 53 Division C Humorous Speech contest with a speech titled “I Got Hooked.”  This was a speech dealing with Brian’s “deep sea” fishing adventure in which he fell overboard.  Brian Fleming an area governor for Toastmasters had the following to say about Brian’s speech; “Brian delivered a fantastic speech last night.  I've seen the speech 3 times now and last night was by far the best.  The other contestants delivered some very funny and very clever speeches last night, but Brian's had them rolling, almost out of their chairs.”  Brian will be competing in the District level Humorous Speech contest on November 13, 2004 at the District 53 Fall Conference in Fishkill, NY. He will once again be using the speech “I Got Hooked.”

Toastmasters District 53 includes the entire state of Connecticut and Massachusetts west of Worcester County as well as Eastern New York.  For more information on Toastmasters, please visit the following websites:
